As the demand for net is growing in leaps and bounds the business for web hosting companies is also growing. Small web host companies are in pressure and cannot compete with bigger companies. The small companies cannot invest in latest technology and new equipment. However with changing times technology has become more and more accessible and so the smaller web hosting companies are becoming popular. The smaller companies with their latest technology are here to stay. It is a known fact that it is easier to hale and manage 2000 business people than 20,000 business people. They give personal attention when the business is small and easily manageable.

The number of web hosting companies is abundant on the net. The ratio of web hosting companies offering their services is in thousands and they offer their services to millions of websites. To choose the right one, you need to ensure their credentials

The three new web hosts of 2007 are IPowerWeb, Bluehost and HostGator. IPowerWeb is as the name suggests a powerful deluxe web hosting package. It has the facility to please all its clients regardless of their needs. It is a consolidated, comprehensive web hosting package. Business Pro is the type of package which caters to the need of beginners, professionals or even the established business houses. Not only does it offer free domain and design templates but also offers to transfer clients who obtain free marketing. IPowerWeb provides 50 GB of disk space to its customers and 750 GB of monthly sit transfer.

Bluehost comes at a relatively cheaper price so is a good bet for small business. It gives the liberty of fully approaching an assortment of features at a low cost along with enhanced multimedia features. Enhanced storage and site transfer capabilities is another attractive feature of Bluehost. Bluehost gives a 200 GB disk space with a monthly site transfer of 2000 GB. Bluehost gives you the advantage of not having to skimp on space or site transfer.

HostGator comes with the facility of money back within one month if not satisfied with the product – its most advantageous feature as it lets the user to feel free to work with it. It has a wealth of control panel options along with support features. It lets the beginner to test the waters before they swim in deep waters. It provides 50 GB of disk space and only allows for 200 GB of monthly site transfer.

Well, not Web 2.0 the development technique to deliver engaging, interactive, Web-based applications, but Web 2.0 hype will fade. It will fade as we realize that what we are calling Web 2.0 today is a natural evolution of Web-based development that began nearly 10 years ago and as the plethora of Web 2.0 companies face the realities of a tough and fickle market. While the best of the ideas will survive, we’ll see consolidation, cherry-picking acquisitions, and a whole lot of used servers for sale on eBay.

While entrepreneurs have turned their collective attention to the get-rich-quick Web 2.0 movement, business customers have been largely ignored. Next year, however, the pendulum swings back to business. After all, they are the customers who have resources and pay for the products they use. Expect, though, the look and feel and service-oriented approach to significantly influence the design and delivery of enterprise software.
The trend to be online is here to stay. When the internet started the main job of the people surfing the net was to search for information. Well the trend has certainly changed, now the web search engines have developed specialized search engines for almost everything. The search is just for everything local search, book search, image search, video search and so on. Websites will have to optimize search engines so that the local search is given top priority. People have developed the habit of searching for each and everything on the net.

Social networking saw a huge development in 2006 with the coming of sites like Facebook and Myspace. Web 2.0 made an enormous impact in 2006 and is here to stay. Web 2.0 technologies such as blogs, social networking, video sharing has given all and sundry a right to be heard and to share their ideas and creations. This will lead to growth in websites which allow people to interact with each other. Organizations like church, ministry, educational institutions, and business organizations allow people to express their ideas and to upload photographs, links etc through blogs, forums and polls.

PHP5.2 is the new release for the year 2007, but has it made any difference. Only time can tell, but one thing is for sure PHP5 released in 2006 is more acceptable to people having business enterprise and who are amateur developers. It has been observed that PHP4 is still the default host of the of web design. The trend is continuing to change and Python and Ruby are gaining support.

Top grade publicity has led to majority of adoption of hosts like Site5 and Thinkhost. In the year 2007-2008 this growth will continue with rising host support for Ruby and maybe the ‘alternative’ window will be open, there may be some web hosts who will improve their support for other languages. At present Python support is often limited to CGI and an old version like 2.2 with at best a few 3rd party modules available.

The implication of this is that the mainstream web hosts will expand into the market of geek hosts like GrokThis.net and TextDrive and eventually the market for web hosts focusing on supporting different languages/environments than mainstream web hosts will increase.

The new web hosts are cheaper and are offering attractive features for its customers. The fact that to attract business new web hosting companies provide great offers deals to customers, though they may lose money at first. The new web host can provide for 50% lower prices and twice as much customer on each server. As the number of customers increases the profit margin also slowly increases.

With the Web 2.0 movement entrepreneur have got rich but business customers have been largely disregarded. The trend is going to change and the change will swing back to business. Business people are the customers who have resources and pay for the products they use.

In the midst of this vast atmosphere, individuals will prefer to host their information the choice will be for the providers that offer the most meaningful and relevant informative content. The web hosting service will be a target of better market and better business for all.

Hi, interesting article. In my opinion, as technology is much more accessible, at lower costs, small web hosts are now able to compete with the big ones.

What will make a difference between one provider and another? See..before it was availability, but now the majority of hosting providers use some sort of redundancy allowing near 100% uptime. Then there was the price, but now prices are so low, that you just cannot go down more. Speed - again, most providers offers fast & reliable Internet links. What remains? Well as you mentioned, the customer service, and apart from that, how much can a provider offer features in their hosting packages (including support for latest technologies, etc)

Again, this is just my view, but I think i’m not so much wrong.

yeah due to new technologies and it’s availability at lower price has made it possible for smaller companies to stand against the giants, but who knows, what’s going to happen in future.

The web hosting industry is ripe for the picking for a big name to step in and dominate (Google anyone?). The small guys can definitely thrive on the lower-end hosting, but it’s the big corporate accounts that really drive business.

These corporate accounts won’t just choose the cheapest option but the host that they trust to offer the backup and services they require. Building that trust takes a HUGE marketing budget and top-notch salesforce. Despite the lower cost of the technology, the small hosts won’t be able to compete with mega-marketing budgets.

You mentioned, the prevalence of used servers on eBay. Just an FYI, that if hosts are afraid to brave the uncertainties of eBay for their IT equipment, there are legitimate resellers of used equipment who offer tech support and warranties at similar discounts. My company, Vibrant, sells used servers, storage and networking hardware. I know about going up against big marketing budgets, as we directly compete with Cisco, IBM, Sun, EMC, etc… and those companies would love to see the secondary market discredited and ultimately squashed.

Great article, definitely worth a read… however I believe that bluehost now recently started to offer unlimited space and unlimited bandwidth… I wouldn’t be so keen to accept such an offer though… if it was truly unlimited… google would definately buy one of their pagkages :D

    N.B - read the fineprint!
